Lesson 3 — Making new words
Baslamo's vocabulary has many terms made up of multiple words. While sometimes these compound words are made of two full words, most of the time they're made up of one full word and one or more affixes, which in Baslamo are called kesekumolas. There's quite a bit, but don't worry! We won't need to learn them all now, and you'll come to recognize them in words with time. For now, let's look at some of the most useful ones:
| kesekumol | Meaning | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| -(a)lo | tool, item | naso "to write" → nasolo "pencil, pen" |
| -(a)pi | becoming, changing | al "knowledge" → alapi "to learn" |
| -(a)tel | do-er, occupation | fas "to create" → fasatel "creator" |
| -(i)gi | causing, result | iso "equal" → isogi "to balance" |
| -(n)ik | little, small | siku "ice" → sikunik "snow" |
